Deep breaths…

All to often, I am reminded that time with my little children is fleeting.  It seems that #1 is aging me by the second.

The summer was full of firsts for him. He is growing up, and it is sad for this mommy. It is exciting for this mommy.  It is terrifying for this mommy.

We let him spend an entire week away with a friend and his family.  He had a great time.  He loved it.

I survived.

One night, the manchild was gone with a friend (and his mom of course).  He was gone a lot later than this mommy expected.  In fact, it was almost an hour. I heard sirens in the distance. I stayed calm. (maybe)

I hated it.

I waited.

The first night we had to wait up for him.

I survived.

Tonight, another first. I sit up, much later than I want to, waiting.  Waiting for my young teenager on his way home from basketball practice.

Not a big deal. Right?

Except he is riding home with his teenage teammate!!!

AHHHHHHH… He is riding in a car…a fast looking sports car with a TEENAGER!!!!!

I may not survive.

UPDATE: Practice ran later than expected. Manchild gives bad directions. Daddy panicked before Mommy. He is home.

Fishing with the kiddies…

The first time this year, they went without me because I was canning.  This time, I really wanted to go!  We went to the Four Lakes Forest Perserve.

This was the first time I had been there, and it is quite pretty! Even though we didn’t catch a single fish, and even though we spent most of the time casting a kid’s pole.

or untangling a kid’s line…

or baiting a hook…

or untangling a kid’s line…

or hushing the kids…

or untangling a kid’s line…

or De-lining a tree…

We had a great time!

The hubby got to fish a little…. He didn’t get any fish.

Jehovah Jireh – God our Provider

Sunday night,  we had a group of people for dinner.  We were joined by 7 extra adults and a couple extra kids, and dinner was….well… insane.  We have had a dining room table that has needed some work.  The table was a blessing to us six years ago, but it just needed some work nowadays.  The table only sat six at its biggest.  The legs were no longer able to be tightened and the table swayed routinely.  When we have company we have had to bring in an extra table just to find room to feed anyone other than our family.  The extra table and the continually moving dining table made dinner  a tad more difficult, but we made it work.

As we were sitting at dinner, we were discussing the fact although we had matching oak chairs sitting around, but we couldn’t use them.  We were explaining that we kept the chairs around the table to look like we had a dining set, but we couldn’t sit on them because they are falling apart.  My dad has tried to glue and clamp them, and they just won’t stay together.  When we are discussing all this, JP said, “God will provide us a table and chairs sometime.”

On Monday morning, my phone rang.  My mother was on the other side excitedly telling me about a table.  My boss at the tax office (and my mom’s boss) has a sister named Shirley.  Shirley had gone to an estate sale on Saturday and made a few purchases.  One of these purchases was a table and chairs for her son and daughter-in-law.  They didn’t want it, and Shirley was hoping to bless someone in the ministry with this table and chairs.  Connie mentioned me, and wha-la!

God was at work.

They didn’t know I needed a table and chairs!  God did.

I didn’t really think it was such a big deal that God would even worry about my swaying table, but God did.

God had provided that table before my husband was even voicing our frustration over the current table situation!

A few of the chairs were painted orange, and so I had to do a little painting of my own, but God gave us this fantastic – solid as a rock – table and 8 chairs!  EIGHT!

Hanging at the orchard

It may have been warm today, but the change of the seasons is coming.  One of our favorite fall activities is the local orchards.  We tend to visit our favorite several times in a season, but today we headed to another local orchard.

The man child decided that the orchard really wouldn’t be any fun, so he hung out with his xBox and we packed in.  Dad, Mom, three kids, a giant kid named DJ and his lovely girl Julie.

First order of business…

We had to feed the goats (who were not hungry at all), but DJ really wanted to feed them, so we tried.

We had to play in the play area too.

Something has happened to us, and we have gotten old.

I love this little monster.

Mama's Boy

We had to “ride” the tractors!

Our big guy LOVES John Deere. “Its the best, Mom!”

And the best picture of the whole day…

That kid may never get a car!

It was strange without Noah. Just didn’t quite feel right :/ Poor guy. We did get to run into old friends, and that was nice treat to end the trip.
